Pipe Production

Task

The company UPONOR Rohrsysteme GmbH produces, among other things, pipes for sanitary and heating installation. For the production of these pipes, UPONOR manufactures its own machines, each of which pulls a metal strip from the coil into an extruder. The speed at which the metal strip is pulled in must be controlled in order to avoid excessive tensile forces at the metal strip.

Implementation

In the case of the machines shown, this pull-in speed is controlled via the innovative analog measurement system NBB3-F90-104-IU-V1, which is designed as a classic dancer control.

The metal strip is fed into the machine by means of a feed loop. In this loop, an arm is inserted and positioned above a swivel joint. This arm is referred to as the dancer. At the end that is inserted into the loop, a roll is located. The other, shorter end of the arm actuates the inductive analog measurement system NBB3-F90-104-IU-V1.

When the metal strip is pulled in, the position of the arm changes and its end energizes the individual coil systems of the analog measurement system differently. This way, a signal is generated, which can be used to continuously adapt the pull-in speed of the metal strip.


Customers' benefit

The analog measurement system NBB3-F90-104-IU-V1 has non-contact position detection with high accuracy and resolution. For the user, this has the advantage that no reference measurement and no teach-in of the start or end value is required before commissioning of the sensor. Another important reason for using this absolute measurement system is its easy connection to the control.
